Your Money

It’s time to make a change in the real estate tax policies that have taken us on a roller coaster ride for the past few years. The shell game of taxes and fees needs to stop. It’s time to make fundamental changes to the budget process and begin performance-based reviews of spending throughout the City. Spending priorities have to be set and respected.

Your Safety

The most basic responsibility of government is to keep you safe. Safe in your home, in your neighborhood, in your children’s schools and on your streets. Chesapeake has long been recognized as one of the safest American cities for its size. Sadly, we’re starting to see an increase in crimes that threaten our security. It’s time to keep the promises abandoned in the last two years to add new officers on the streets and to put our efforts towards retaining our valued public safety personnel.

Your Children’s Education

A second basic responsibility of government is to provide children the best possible education to prepare them for the future. The best way to insure success is to concentrate on strengthening our classrooms and making certain each child has the opportunity to excel. Good teachers, a safe environment and improved technology will help meet that goal. Education is an investment that pays the best dividends for tomorrow.

Your government

Your government needs to work for you and work well. To work well, your government needs to be more efficient, more responsive and more accountable. Innovative ideas to save costs are needed now more than ever. Government conducted behind closed doors is destined to fail. We will only be successful by opening the doors of information to all and building real partnerships with our citizens.

Your city’s future

Depends on encouraging clean businesses and industry to bring good jobs and stable revenues to Chesapeake. It’s time to target the kind of jobs that build on the strengths of the region such as modeling and simulation, shipbuilding and ship repair, medical research, tourism and the port.

Your neigbhorhoods

We must build on existing policies to protect neighborhoods. One of those protections must create a “backyard” that promotes partnership instead of conflicts.

Our environment

Clean air and water, preserving open spaces and cleaning up pollution benefits our lives and the lives of the next generations.
